Highway to Health
HealthCorps Highway to Health festivals are held in HealthCorps communities across the nation. Each festival showcases neighborhood health resources typically located in and around our program high schools.
By organizing these community festivals, HealthCorps promotes awareness of a healthy lifestyle’s benefits, especially nutrition, physical fitness and mental resiliency. Empowering students to become educated consumers and health activists, HealthCorps Coordinators and students, with the help of our partner organizations, take our upbeat message to underserved communities.
Highway to Health festivals may include the following: Live entertainment; Fitness demonstrations; Fitness competitions; Cooking demonstrations and nutritious food samples; Health materials and equipment giveaways; Health screenings and tests may include: Cholesterol tests, HIV Rapid Testing, Nutrition consultations, Breast Exams and Screenings for Asthma, Blood Pressure/Hypertension, Dental, Vision, Hearing, and Prostate health; and consultations with local Health and Fitness professionals
We invite celebrities, local politicians, athletes, trainers and medical experts, plus news media to help draw attention to the community health facilities and resources, as well as the HealthCorps school program.
